3D Print Consultation Reservation (Creative Maker Studio) Capacity: 1

3D Print Consultation Reservation

Description

Students who wish to submit a 3D Print Submission must make a 30-minute consultation appointment.

During your 3D print consultation, CMS staff will review your 3D model, help you choose the preferred settings for your print, and format the file (.STL) for printing. Files may be brought in on a flash drive or accessed/downloaded on our iMac computer inside the CMS. Students may submit up to five files in one submission so long as the maximum filament weight and print time limits.

Need help finding a 3D model? We recommend the website thingiverse.com where you can find free to download user-created digital design files. Want to 3D model but don't know where to start? Check out tinkercad.com a free, easy-to-use app for 3D design and start modeling now!

3D Print Consultation Policies:

  • Students may submit only a single request at a time.

  • 3D Print consultations may only accommodate one student at a time per appointment.

  • 3D designs must be found online or created by students prior to your reservation time slot. Reservation time slots will not be extended for file browsing or designing.

  • All 3D printing requests must be submitted as .STL files. Consultations will be restricted to 3D print slicing software technicalities; i.e. Cura.

  • Students may submit up to five files in one submission so long as the maximum filament weight does not exceed 160 grams and maximum print time does not exceed 10 hours.

  • CMS staff will briefly evaluate each submitted file for size, compatibility with printer, and the need for support.

  • CMS staff is not responsible for design flaws or ill-fitting building parts, and will not modify submissions beyond the described above.

  • Students are responsible for design specifications (including measurements, color, thickness of shell, support, and overhangs) so special requests have to be spelled out in appropriate form field.

  • The Library assumes no responsibility for failed print jobs.

  • Students may only reprint the same job once.

  • Every new print job or reprint will be placed at end of queue.

  • Students will receive an estimated time for delivery of print job once the job has been evaluated and submitted to the print queue. Actual print time will vary depending on model size and number of jobs in queue.

  • Estimated time does not account for problems that may arise with 3D printer. Students should allow at least two (2) weeks for an approved print job to be completed.

  • Students are solely responsible for their own project deadlines – plan accordingly.

  • Staff cannot modify print queue.
